Here is just a sample of the kinds of questions I get all the time from job seekers. If you have another question you would like to see posted here, please just send me an e-mail and I would be happy to reply.
Q. Why would I want a job with a pharmaceutical or medical sales company?
A. This is an easy question to answer because there are so many reasons! Just take a look at any list of the "top" companies to work for in America. Consistently, 10 to 20% of these lists contain pharmaceutical or medical supply companies and all of these companies need Sales Representatives to sell their products and services to hospitals and doctors. These companies are willing to pay their sales reps top dollar and provide outstanding bonuses, commissions, company cars with FREE gas, luxurious trips and so much more! And when you couple this exciting industry with the fact that as our population ages, there will be more need for innovative drugs and surgical procedures, you have a nearly recession-proof career in a growing industry!
Q. Why is it so difficult to find a job in pharmaceutical or medical sales?
I know many jobs seekers get very frustrated that there seems to be some kind of a secret code to get into this industry. But that does not have to be the case. It all starts with a great, achievement-driven resume that highlights your specific accomplishments. Then you just need to be more diligent and creative than the next job seekers to find out about openings and get your resume to the right person. And you must be prepared for the specific questions you will face in the interview process with the right answers. Over my nearly twenty years of experience in this industry, I have taught candidates my proven methods for landing that pharmaceutical or medical sales job. So instead of just sending your resume to every pharmaceutical or medical sales job posting, you need to have a clear cut plan with the kind of insider's information that I give to my candidates all the time. I have helped nearly 10,000 job seekers and I know I can help you, too!
Q. I don't have any experience in the healthcare or medical field and I have never sold anything in my life. Do I have a real shot at this industry?
This is the number one question I get all the time and the answer is Yes! I know this for a fact because I have personally helped candidates just like you land a job making two, sometimes three times more money as a pharmaceutical or medical sales rep. I have found that nearly any background, experience level, or education can land a job in the industry because I have seen it happen. I tell my candidates all the time that tenacity is the number one skill you need and for those candidates that are serious about this industry, I know I can help you overcome any objection in your background or education that were keeping you from your dream job! You just need to know how to write your resume and how to present yourself in the interview to be just a competitive as any other job seeker, no matter what the other guy's resume says.
Q. What kind of income and benefits can I expect in pharmaceutical and medical sales?
While a career in this industry is very exciting and rewarding, it is also very lucrative! Most companies offer a base salary in the range from $40,000 to $70,000 depending on experience and how the total compensation package is structured. On top of that, you can expect to make a rich commission and bonus package based on sales performance and achieving sales quotas. This is typically another $30,000 to over $100,000 on top of your base salary. (Medical Device companies do have a higher compensation plan overall and are at the upper end of this range and even higher.) Most companies also provide a free company car with free car and all insurance and repairs paid for. You can also expect a great benefits package for you and your family with everything from health insurance to a savings plan. In addition, top performers will receive extra bonuses and luxurious trips around the world!
