What
makes Nikki K. Kerzic such an expert in this industry?
Why
has she even been called the “GURU”
for Pharmaceutical and Medical sales job
seekers?
Let me tell you about my background and how my vast
experience can help you. Early in my career, I decided that I wanted to be in
Pharmaceutical or Medical Sales calling on doctor's offices and hospitals. I
always thought of it as the "Holy Grail" of sales jobs and if
that is were the great money was in sales, that is were I wanted to be!
After lots of learning, networking, and trial and
error – I did it! With
absolutely no healthcare, pharmaceutical or medical sales experience,
I was a
Sales Representative for the world’s leading
healthcare company, Johnson &
Johnson. I quickly
made a name for myself (I was named the Rookie
of the Year
for the entire company) and year after year I won tons of sales awards,
including trips all over the world, while making great money. (And did I
mention the outstanding benefits, including a free company car with free gas and
insurance and repairs totally paid for?) In just a short time, I was promoted
into Sales Training and Sales Management.
As a Sales Manager, one of my most important jobs was to find top talent for my company. Nothing is more critical to a sales organization than having the right people selling your product. I worked with recruiters, networked, even sat in career fair booths, all just to find great sales representatives. And I was very good at it. I hired some of the best people into the company, many of whom are still at J&J today. Working for such a well-known and well-respected company as Johnson & Johnson, I was inundated with resumes of job seekers wanting to work for my company selling pharmaceuticals and/or medical devices and products. Recruiters and Human Resources personnel were constantly sending me resumes. Most resumes I decided to discard within the first thirty seconds – why? Because they committed a critical mistakes and I simply could not waste my time. On the other hand, some candidates had a good resume and I would see them for an interview only to have them unknowingly commit another mistake in the interview process.
Let me give you a real example of one candidate that I have never forgotten. As a Sales Manager, I was looking to hire a new Sales Representative in Kansas to call on doctors selling one of our leading medical device products. I will call her Susan. Susan was very sharp – she made a great first impression and I really liked her. The interview was going great until – BAM! – out of the blue, Susan committed a critical mistake.
Sadly, Susan blew it and she had no idea. I am sure she was surprised when the recruiter called her to tell her I would not be moving forward with her. Sound familiar? Has this ever happened to you? You probably had no idea what went wrong. And if you do not know what went wrong, how can you correct it for the next interview?
OK, back to my background and what all of this means to you in your job search….
All the while, I was constantly asked by friends, friends of friends, and cousins of friends of friends – HOW DO I GET A GREAT JOB AS A PHARMACEUTICAL OR MEDICAL SALES REPRESENTATIVE? I had such a passion to help others land a job in this industry that I decided to start my own recruiting company in 1998. Because of my industry experience, knowledge, and extensive insider’s contacts, my company quickly grew.
I have successfully placed job seekers in all of the top companies, including several divisions of Johnson & Johnson, Merck, Pfizer, Medtronic, Boston Scientific, Guidant, Abbott Labs and many others. My company was quickly among the top 2% of recruiting agencies in number of placements made annually.
While I enjoyed working as a recruiter, I was always frustrated that my loyalties were very one-sided. You see, I worked for the hiring company, not the candidates. Let’s face it – recruiters do not work for you. That why I decided to start helping job seekers just like you as a career coach, author, and industry expert specializing in pharmaceutical and medical sales since that is what I know best. I was soon overwhelmed with the number of candidates willing to hire me to help them land a job in this lucrative industry. But after working with so many candidates, I found that there were a few common mistakes that these job seekers were consistently making.
I was able to help them make a few simple changes to their job search strategies and – VOILA! – they got that dream job they always wanted. These mistakes are so common and I knew that I could compile my experience and knowledge into a simple system that any job seeker could easily follow. This system has been used by over 10,000 job seekers and it really works!
